Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 Summary
As from September 2008 the Queensland Government introduced legislation for Fire and Safety Procedures.
If you are the owner, or a business or person that is occupying, or managing a building in Queensland you have legal obligations to ensure the safety of any person in that building in the event of a fire or hazardous material emergency.
Buildings effected by Legislation
- All buildings where 30 or more people work, including casual personnel.
- All short term accommodation buildings exceeding 25 metres in height. ( hotels, motels, holiday apartments)
- All licensed premised where there may be over-crowding.
- All high occupancy buildings.
Fire and Evacuation Procedures
Fire and evacuation procedures will in most cases need to be significantly improved.
A Fire and Evacuation Plan document will be required which will detail procedures, equipment lists and descriptions, training aids and general information. In certain cases this document must also contain information about key persons within the emergency management structure. There is a further requirement to keep a copy of this document off site to protect it in the event of a fire.
Who is Responsible?
- For multiple occupancy buildings – the building Owner/Manager
- For single occupancy buildings – the building Occupier
You must be compliant by July 1, 2009.
